• Costco Joins Emerging List of Retailers Refusing to Sell GMO Salmon

Costco just announced that, as their customers
recently rallied and made their views known, they will not sell genetically modified salmon.

Costco joins a long list of retailers saying they will not sell GMO salmon, despite the FDA's approval for the sale of such fish. “Although the FDA has approved the sale of GM salmon, Costco has not sold and does not intend to sell GM salmon at this time,” the warehouse store chain said in a recent statement.

This comes after the FDA cleared AquAdvantage Salmon, Massachusetts-based AquaBounty's genetically modified fish (it grows twice as fast as normal salmon, among other things), saying "there are no biologically relevant differences in the nutritional profile of AquAdvantage Salmon compared to that of other farm-raised Atlantic salmon.”

While we disagree with the FDA on this one, we find hope in Costco's decision, and applaud Costco in joining Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Safeway in forgoing genetically modified salmon.
